Okay, something needs to be said about something that I see as a big problem and has caught my attention as of late. I work in many shops on the right side of Main Street but this specific incident happened in Curtain Call Collectibles which is in Town Square Theatre & it’s the shop that you enter while exiting Mickey & Tink. The theming of this shop is a magic show so we have numerous props around the shop that are decorations including rope hung on hooks at the 2 main register stations. More than 3 times in this past month have a been approached with this question “how much is the rope” and then followed by either “this trip has gotten tough if you know what I mean” or “I need to kill myself” which is the more gruesome of the 2 but both meaning the same thing. Now I wanna talk about this because never ever should you joke about suicide, suicide isn’t funny POINT. BLANK. PERIOD.
Now I’m not going to blubber to you with a sob story about how hard I’ve had it or get into the dirty details of all my struggles but I can say everyone at some point or another has been so down and out that they just didn’t know if & how they could go on. Some people it’s just a little ping of a feeling that gets them kind of down but for others it can be all consuming and result in someone taking their life. When people throw around jokes about suicide and saying things like “I just wanna kill myself” and think that it’s funny, it’s not! In fact it’s turning suicide into something it isn’t. When you joke about suicide you never know whose presence you could be affecting by not thinking through what you just said. Someone may be struggling and need someone to confide in to help pull them back from the edge but when they hear you joking about suicide they think “oh they think like this too, it’s normal, no big deal, they won’t wanna hear my sob story if they have their own”. Once they withdrawal themselves, depending on how bad they’ve gotten what you said may be what causes us to loose that person because they didn’t think the way they were thinking was a big deal and it is. Suicide is an illness and needs to be treated with love and care so that person can recover in a positive environment. Basically what I’m saying is THINK BEFORE YOU SPEAK and that there’s things that shouldn’t be made into jokes, some of these things being suicide, rape, abuse, racism, feminism & gender identity. There is an unfathomable amount of things that you shouldn’t make light of but here’s just a few of the big ones. Educate yourself and take pride in building people up with good positive, harmless jokes. Even dark humor has a line that shouldn’t be crossed. Just some food for thought.
The past 2 days have been wonderful! Yesterday Declan & I went to Epcot & ate at Pizzeria Napoli with my cousin Chef Art Smith & some family. I’ve never ate there and it was phenomenal! Art & his husband Jesus have recently adopted 4 children that are already brothers and sisters and I had the privilege of being able to meet those cuties their first time to Florida & their first time to Disney World. After dinner me and my friend Eden that tagged along were making our way back to the front and stopped in American & listened to Fuel play. We really only wanted to hear Hemorrhage & figured it would be their finale & we were right! My hunny couldn’t make it to that outting so I brought him home pizza that was left over.
Tonight I was fortunate to have disneyprincesskay081091 babysit Declan even though it was last minute. Alex and I headed to Epcot & we were able to just join Art’s group since we are family. He got us into Party for the Senses (which we had been dying to do but it’s not fathomable on Disney income when you have kids) and we had a wonderful time. My family was there again and we had 3 tables reserved for us. Art was one of the guest chef’s so it wasn’t till after a bit that we were able to thank him profusely! After PotS we all headed outside for Illuminations. I got to meet the head of Merchandise for all of Disney World because she’s friends with my cousin and she was exceptionally nice! We got preferred viewing for the fireworks & it was magical. I wish every day could be this perfect but at least we were able to experience this even if it was a 1 time deal.
Sorry for spilling my guts and blabbing on about my cousin but I’m just so thrilled and I’m really very proud of him! Have a magical day everyone. Ps my favorite Artist is at MK until Monday I believe, come visit! It’s Larry Dotson by the way :)
pixiedust-paycheck had her beautiful baby boy Jack Skyler & he is perfect!! Congrats to you and Michael & have lots of fun being parents and taking lots of pictures that’ll embarrass him later :)
Jack Skyler, born 10/6 - Mad Hatter Day (and the original date to my wedding!). We’re all definitely mad here over him.
So today a fellow cast member told me that with my hair, glasses & husbands name tag (his name is Alex) that I made them think of Alex from Orange is the New Black so much, compliment or not? All I can think of is Donna when she was in that 70’s show!!
